Meet Our Veterinarian

Dr. Mike

Michael D. Friedlander

D.V.M.

“Dr. Mike,” as she is called by many, was born in Jacksonville, Florida, but grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. She has lived in Atlanta now since 1997 and plans to stay forever (her family is very happy she moved back to the Southeast!). She received her BA from the University of Maryland, her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (Go Hokies!) in 1996, and completed a Small Animal Medicine and Surgery Internship at the University of Missouri-Columbia Veterinary Teaching Hospital (Mizzou) in 1997. Furthermore, she is a graduate of the NAVC Institute in Feline Medicine for three completed terms of study.

In late 2006, she opened the doors of Cat Care of Vinings and is committed to medical excellence in cat-specific disease, diagnostics, and therapy. “I wanted a sanctuary for cats where even the most nervous, fearful, and anxious of cats can be treated with dignity no matter the condition or circumstance. I believe cats require unique communication—we find that a less-is-more approach with feline patients is invaluable. A cat is a sacred soul in my home, and at Cat Care of Vinings—I seek a language with each cat that conveys mutual respect and preserves their dignity. They did not ask to be here and should not have to endure trauma or disrespect at my hand. As long as I remain teachable, I continue to learn from them every day without exception. I want to demonstrate with Cat Care of Vinings how SMALL changes in our approach in feline-specific care add YEARS to the life of these little souls.”

Dr. Mike is highly committed to community and personal service to others; she feels it is an essential part of a complete and balanced life. One of her favorite reflections was spoken many years ago by Winston Churchill:

“You make a living by what you earn; you make a life by what you give.”

Dr Casey

Jennifer Casey

D.V.M.

While born in the heart of New York City, Dr. Casey will always call Cape Cod, Massachusetts her home. She received her Bachelors of Animal Science from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1995 and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the North Carolina State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 1999. After graduation, Dr. Casey spent a brief time in general practice and then followed her love of cats to becoming an Associate Veterinarian at a feline specific practice.

Her love for cats only continued to grow! It is true what they say in veterinary medicine in that “cats are not small dogs.” After 5 years as an Associate, Dr. Casey purchased the feline specific practice and acted as sole owner for the next 10 years. During this time, she also owned a mobile veterinary practice, allowing her to provide care to patients who were more comfortable seeing their Veterinarian in their familiar surroundings. This not only helped her feline patients receive medical care, but helped to minimize stress for their loving human families as well.

Since moving away from North Carolina, Dr. Casey has worked in various niches of veterinary medicine: high volume/low cost veterinary care, shelter medicine and relief services in the Northwest Georgia area. She has a special interest in senior and special needs pets, pain management, internal medicine, dermatology, palliative care and end of life care.

When Dr. Casey is not working, she enjoys attending local concerts, theater productions, and festivals. She has learned to love the Peach State an currently resides in Northwest Georgia with her menagerie of dogs, cats, guinea pigs, birds and fish- along with their wonderful human Daddy!

Each day, she strives to abide by Mother Theresa’s words, “Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier.”
